City of Subiaco – Australia’s best water-saving council

12 December, 2011 by Debbie Brace

We congratulate the City of Subiaco on being named Australia’s best water-saving council! The City won the Water Conservation Award at Keep Australia Beautiful’s Australian Sustainable Cities Awards last month.

The nationwide award recognises combines innovative water conservation and water re-use initiatives that benefit the community and the environment.

Subiaco council’s most significant reduction has been in the use of groundwater resources – CEO Stephen Tindale said 257,015 kilolitres of water had been saved through a range of infrastructure, technology and policy improvements.

As well as being able to shutdown all reticulation during rain, the City’s public parks irrigation system also monitors soil moisture, so they can tell whether or not watering is required. Keep up the great work!
