Good luck Blackwood Basin Group – 2016 National Landcare Award Finalists!

South West 2016 National Landcare Award Finalists

The winners of 2016 National Landcare Awards will be announced in September at the National Landcare Conference Gala dinner in Melbourne. Western Australian (State) award winners were announced at the 2015 State NRM Conference held in Mandurah. Of the nine award winners from WA, five are from the South West. One of these was the Blackwood Basin Group, who won for a project that Ecoedge helped deliver (and really enjoyed doing so) – The Priority Bittern and Waterbird Biodiversity Enhancement Project (Waterbird Project). Ecoedge developed the concept plan for this project, which is based around the restoration of old mine voids in the Greenbushes area – naturally a fairly dry, wetland-free landscape – to create thriving, freshwater wetland habitat for waterbirds. It’s a really ambitious but happening project – a perfect example of the magic that can happen when people come together for a common and feel-good cause. You can read more about the project here. The Blackwood Basin Group are finalists for the Fairfax Media Landcare Community Group Award, and we wish them all the best with the nomination!
