Russell Smith BSc. (Hons.), MPhil (Murdoch)

Prior to starting his own company, Ekologica, in 2007, Russell spent 12 years working as a botanist with the Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM). Through his work with CALM (now the Department of Parks and Wildlife), he gained extensive experience in carrying out rare flora searches and vegetation surveys, and in managing threatened species and plant communities in the south west of Western Australia. With Ekologica and Ecoedge, Russell has carried out vegetation and rare flora surveys throughout the south west from Geraldton to Kalgoorlie and Ravensthorpe for a range of State government departments, local governments, mining companies, property developers and other environmental consulting organisations. As well as in-field surveys, Russell specialises in multivariate analysis of floristic data, identification and mapping of vegetation types including Threatened and Priority Ecological Communities, rare flora, and biodiversity assessments and management plans for conservation reserves and bushland.
